The Rules of Zen

A Master and a Student are sitting on a hill in meditation the master holds up his hand to speak with one finger extended.
“The first rule of Zen is,” The Master begins, “You do not talk about Zen.”
“What’s the second rule?” Asks the student.
“The second rule of what?”
Enjoy Your Day Today,

The past few weeks I’ve been having some fresh new experiences, and I have to tell you, it is so Exciting!
Doing new things is a great way to keep life fresh and exciting, meet new friends and add more hobby’s to your list of things you love.
Just this week I have –
-Swam in a freshwater stream
-Gone Fishing at midnight
-Gone Kayaking on a lake
-Written a short film
-Gone Hiking through one of the most beautiful canyons in the Black Hills
And I still have to go try racquetball and stream kayaking this week.

Breathe.
Now, try it again…Breathe.
Aaaaaaahhhhhhhh.
Sometimes I get so caught up in the business of daily life, working more than full time from home with three kids running around asking “why” about everything and focusing on business goals that I forget the most important goal of all, to feel good.
So I’d like to take a moment to remind all of my readers out there that there is one thing that most achievement gurus won’t suggest that you do, but you probably need to do it more often. Stop and smell the roses.

I’ve eaten more cookies than I care to admit this last week, and I’ve still kept my weight off. Have you finished any of your goals? I finished my challenges and failed at a few of them. Where are you?
1) Lose 20 lbs by Christmas Day
I did not actually lose the full 20 lbs. I lost 7 lbs on the scale. I’m down to my lowest weight of 178 lbs. and I feel great. I lost a belt size, and all my pants are looser, and on top of that, I have gained a significant amount of muscle. So I am not displeased with the results.

Yesterday was Gratitude Day!!!!
So I’ve added the Appreciation Exercise to my daily routine. It’s been very refreshing to wake up and spend just a couple minutes appreciating the things I have and the things that I have experienced. I’ve also been spending the minimum 5 minutes per night just finding things to appreciate, and that has been a great way to settle down before I meditate and go to bed.
