Make Someone’s Day Today

Standing in line at the grocery store today I noticed that everybody just goes through the same motions while checking out. They nod to the cashier, say hello, answer any required questions and generally move through each line like zombies. I realized that in most of our day-to-day transactions, most of us do this exact same thing. We move through life like zombies, feigning connection with other people.
Does it have to be this way? Of course not, but we have become so used to it that it doesn’t seem abnormal to never remember your server at a restaurant, never learn the name of the teller at the bank, never actually meet the people we meet. We can of course do better, we just don’t.
What would it cost us to give the people we meet a couple of minutes of actual attention, and what would the reward be?
If we would just take a few minutes each time we meet someone to have a real human connection with them and actually smile and talk with them, chances are that most of them will respond positively. In fact, for the most part, if you smile and treat someone genuinely rather than as a shopping cart zombie, you will find that most of the time, you have made that persons day. You can see it in their eyes and in the way they say good day to you.
The next time you’re out at the store or the bank or a drive through, try to make that persons day with your interaction. It’s not that hard, all it usually requires is a smile.
I hope this finds you well,
Ryan
